Metropolitan Opera Hornist and Trumpeter Retire After Combined 64 Years of Service
On August 27, 2020, the MET Orchestra Musicians website posted a thoughtful retirement reflection from Joseph Anderer, a former Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Joining the MET Orchestra in 1984, Anderer permanently became one of the principal horns during the 2003-2004 season. Prior to joining the MET Orchestra, Anderer performed in the New York City area as a freelancer and regular sub for the New York Philharmonic for 14 years. In addition to performing with the MET Orchestra, Anderer was a founding member of the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
Also retiring this past season was trumpeter Peter Bond, former Second/Third Trumpet of the MET Orchestra. Bond studied music at Western Illinois University and Georgia State University under the tutelage of John Head, former Principal Trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony. Before joining the MET Orchestra in 1992, Bond was a freelance trumpeter in Atlanta and performed as Principal Trumpet of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
