Indiana University Hires First Euphonium Professor
On September 21, 2017, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announced that Demondrae Thurman will become the new (and first) Professor of Music in Euphonium starting August 1, 2018.
Thurman, currently a professor at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, is an international soloist, performer, conductor, and teacher. In addition to teaching at Samford, Thurman is a member of the Brass Band of Battle Creek and the Sotto Voce Quartet. His playing on the euphonium has also allowed him to perform with some of the country’s great ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. While teaching in Indiana, Thurman will still continue directing the low brass studio at Samford University.
