Ron Wilkins Releases “Roncerto”
Trombonist and Vocalist Ron Wilkins has released a new recording of ‘Roncerto.’ Read below what Ron has to say about this new work and recording:
It’s a phenomenal bass trombone concerto with piano and French Horn quartet called “Roncerto”, written by a fantastic young composer named Ethan Gurwitz. The work incorporates a melding of Classical and Jazz influences, and it’s uniqueness is evident in the fact that it incorporates two improvised cadenzas based on the blues in Bb in the first movement “Big City” (I scat sing on the first cadenza, play bass bone on the second ). The horn quartet joins me on the second (“Becca’s Big Bass Bone Blues Ballad” ) and third (“The Unsettling Night” ) movements, and Ethan’s use of tonal colors and dramatic effect makes for an incredible musical experience. Ethan’s piece was chosen as the best new composition at the 2021 ITF, but has yet to be performed live.
