Over 50 Quarantined Brass Players Still Play An Easter Gig

The week leading up to Easter Sunday is one of two busy weeks for brass musicians around the world (the other being the Christmas season). With many worship services and festive productions around the globe, brass players tend to “play loud and prosper” as one trumpet player said during these special weeks. Since COVID-19 has placed social distancing and “stay-at-home” orders at the forefront of society, one brass player created a way to still give that fanfare feel to his church congregation.

Trumpeter Jason Webb, a member of the Media Ministry team at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, contacted some brass friends asking if they wanted to participate in recording a fanfare arrangement of the hymn “Christ the Lord is Risen Today.”  What started as some local church members answering the request turned into over 50 submissions from professionals and enthusiasts of all ages! Altogether Webb received 93 videos and 105 audio tracks from brass players (and an organist) all over the country. Ranging from flugelhorn to euphonium and everything between, many of the brass players recorded multiple parts to create a fanfare unlike any other.
