International Jazz Day 2018
The month of April is considered Jazz Appreciation Month and has been a month-long celebration of America’s music – jazz. Started in 2001 by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, JAM has become a national movement to promote this art form to the next generation.
As a finale to this musical month, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched International Jazz Day in 2012 to become a global outreach day to collectively bring all jazz styles for a time of celebrating a genre of music that brings together so many walks of life. With the help of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, IJD is reaching new audiences, worldwide, and introducing (or reacquainting) the music of jazz.
